I'll start in saying this isn't a bad shot at all, especially as I haven't seen much other photography from you.

However, I suggest purchasing a UV filter...it will protect your lens and help with sky coloration as well as the lense flare. I can see you were trying to use lens flare as a feature in this image but it is a bit too distorted for the effect you were working towards. However, the reflection of that flare is a good thing...if only a bit more subdued (a UV filter helps here). And believe it or not, photoshop lens flares in post processing can be just as good if not better than natural ones if done right.

The key to a good image is proportions and lines. You have to lead the viewer to a visual focus. I believe you do a fairly good job here using the natural coastline. However I think proportionately the sky should have a bit more focus, the image feels a bit uneven. Also the sky is a bit washed out which as you get better can be fixed in photoshop, lightroom, or other similar post-processing software.

I hope that my suggestions help a bit :)
